iOS Shortcuts Setup
Automate UnlockToLearn with Apple Shortcuts
iOS onlyiOS Shortcuts Setup
Since iOS doesn’t allow apps to trigger on device unlock like Android, you can use Apple Shortcuts to automatically open UnlockToLearn in specific situations.
Option 1: Open After Screen Unlock
Create a shortcut that opens UnlockToLearn when you unlock your device.
Setup Steps
- Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone/iPad
- Tap the Automation tab at the bottom
- Tap + New Automation (or the + button)
- Scroll down and select Screen Locked
- Choose When Unlocked
- Make sure “Run Immediately” is enabled
- Tap Next
- Tap New Blank Automation
- Tap Add Action
- Search for “Open App”
- Tap Open App and select UnlockToLearn
- Tap Done
Note: iOS may ask for confirmation the first few times. After that, it should run automatically.
Option 2: Open Before Specific Apps
Challenge yourself with a flashcard before opening distracting apps like social media.
Setup Steps
- Open the Shortcuts app
- Tap the Automation tab
- Tap + New Automation
- Select App
- Tap Choose and select apps you want to protect (e.g., Instagram, TikTok)
- Enable Is Opened
- Make sure “Run Immediately” is enabled
- Tap Next
- Tap New Blank Automation
- Tap Add Action
- Search for “Open App”
- Select UnlockToLearn
- Tap Done
Now, when you try to open Instagram (or your selected apps), UnlockToLearn will open first!
Tips
- Start small: Begin with 1-2 apps and add more as the habit builds
- Be patient: iOS automations may need a few runs before working smoothly
- Combine methods: Use both automations for maximum learning opportunities
Limitations
- iOS may occasionally prompt for confirmation
- Background automations can’t be 100% silent due to iOS restrictions
- Some system apps may not trigger automations
